Borno State Judiciary Continues Online Court Sittings, Two Discharged and Acquitted, One Sentenced

High Courts in Borno State continued to sit online this week, giving attention to criminal cases. High Courts 11, 12 and 13 manned by Hon. Justice Alkali Wakkil Gana, Justice Aisha Bintu Kumalia and Justice Fadawu Umaru handed down three more judgments, with two persons set free and one sentenced to imprisonment.

In The STATE Vs MUSA MOHAMMED, the accussed person was charged before Court 11 for culpable homicide punishable with death but was found guilty for a lesser offence of culpable homicide not punishable with death and sentenced to four years imprisonment with an option to pay fine of N200,000.

In High Court 12, Justice Kumalia discharged and acquitted one Grema Alhaji Modu who was accused of an offence of rape.

Likewise, in Court 13, Mohammed Jauro along with his co-accused persons were cleared and subsequently acquitted by Justice Umaru of the offences of conspiracy and abduction.

Justice Fadawu Umaru of the Borno State High Court, it would be recalled, made history on the 27th of April 2020 as the first court to sit online in Nigeria, followed by the Lagos State High Court on 4th of May 2020.

The online court sitting was streamed live via the Borno State Judiciary Facebook page, attracting nearly 11,000 views as at 1:30 pm on 14th May 2020.
