JUST IN NBA Lekki Forum Transforms into NBA Lekki/Eti-Osa Forum, to Hold Save Eti-Osa Ibeju-Lekki Town Hall Meeting, Mass Protest October 26


The Lekki Forum of the Nigerian Bar Association, arising from her Joint Expanded Emergency Meeting of the Executive Committees of the Forum and the Young Lawyers’ Forum held on Saturday, 19th October, 2019 has transformed into the NBA Lekki-Eti-Osa Forum.

This is premised on the quest of the Forum for designation of the High/Magistrate Court Building, which is set to be commissioned in November, 2019, as the Lekki-Eti-Osa Judicial Division of the High Court of Lagos State to cater for the administration of Justice in Ibeju-Lekki and Eti-Osa Local Government Areas of Lagos State.

The NBA Lekki-Eti-Osa Forum has also been assigned a Secretariat , Cloak and Client Counselling Room with space for Law Library within the new High/ Magistrate Court Building at Addo Road, Ajah.

In a related development, the NBA Lekki-Eti-Osa Forum has resolved to hold on Saturday, 26th October, 2019 a Save Eti-Osa and Ibeju -Lekki Town Hall Meeting and Mass Protest with Venue and Take-Off Point as Jakande Open Field , Jakande Beach Road by 10am against Lagos State Government’s inaction against flooding, Terrible State of Lekki-Epe Expressway and introduction of Mandatory E-Tag at the Ikoyi Toll Plaza and for scrapping of Admiralty Toll Plaza and Ikoyi Toll Plazas.

The Joint Expanded Meeting which was held at the Secretariat Annex of the Nigerian Bar Association, Lekki-Eti-Osa Forum at Suite 17, Amabec Plaza, Addo Road , Beside the High/Magistrate Court Building had a Special Session on the State of the Nation with representatives of the civil society including but not limited to the Take -It-Back Movement (Eti-Osa and Ibeju Lekki Local Government Areas), Coalition of Eti-Osa National and State Assembly Candidates(CENSAC), Anti-Lekki Tolling Movement/#OccupyLekkiTollGate and Anti-Impunity Coalition in attendance.

The Special Session reviewed the refusal, failure and gross neglect on the part of the Lagos State Government to act on the Open Letter to the Governor of Lagos State by the NBA Lekki Eti-Osa Forum to convene a Town Hall Meeting on Flooding, Terrible State of Lekki-Epe Expressway and other communities roads inward Addo Badore Road, Okera-nla alternative link road to Alasia, Awoyaya-Bogije to mention a few, and coupled with the Obnoxious and excruciating astronomical 200% increased Tolling fares since 2018, with the newly planned commencement of Mandatory E-Tag at the Ikoyi Toll Plaza by November 1st, 2019.

The Session resolved that without mass resistance action being undertaken against the obnoxious and undemocratic imposition of the anti-people evil agenda, bitter times await the residents of Eti-Osa and Ibeju-Lekki Local Government Areas of Lagos State as they would forced to further pay through their nose for terrible roads, which are not being repaired. The Special Session agreed to hold a Press Conference on Tuesday, 22nd October, 2019 by 1pm towards mobilizing for the Town Hall Meeting and Mass Protests. The Special Session set up the Save Eti-Osa and Ibeju-Lekki Coalition (SEIBEC) as the vehicle of the struggle with Oladotun Hassan, the Chairman of the Lekki-Eti-Osa Forum of the Nigerian Bar Association and Elizabeth E. Ekanem, Coordinator of the Take-it-back Movement, Eti-Osa and Ibeju-Lekki Local Government Areas as Co-Chairpersons and Ayo Ademiluyi as Co-Secretary .

The Executive Committee-in-Session of the Lekki-Eti-Osa Forum lauded the resolute determination of the Office of the Governor of Lagos State , Office of the Chief Judge of Lagos State , the Office of the Chief Registrar of High Court of Lagos State and the Office of the Attorney General of Lagos State to deliver the new High/Magistrate Court Building in November, 2019 in record time. The Executive Committee-in-Session observed the marking of spaces within the new High Court Building and appreciated the assignment of spaces for the Secretariat of the Nigerian Bar Association , Lekki-Eti-Osa Forum and Cloak Room. The meeting resolved that the Monthly Meeting of the Lekki-Eti-Osa Forum shall hold e every second Tuesday of the month at the new High/Magistrate Court Building after commissioning of the new High /Magistrate Court Building.

The meeting resolved to intensify the campaign for the designation of the new High/Magistrate Court Building as a distinct and separate Division of the High Court of Lagos State by approaching the Office of the Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly and the Office of the Chairman of the House Committee on Judiciary for
inclusion of the Lekki-Eti-Osa Division into the High Court Law of Lagos State either by way of amendment or supplement to the extant law. The meeting accepted the appointment with the Chairman of the House Committee on Judiciary for 10am on Tuesday, 22nd October, 2019.

The meeting accepted the supportive letter of the Badagry Branch of the Nigerian Bar Association towards the quest for Lekki-Eti-Osa Branch , as the nomenclature of the Division would reflect , of the Nigerian Bar Association. The meeting resolved that a further correspondence be made to the General Secretary of the Nigerian Bar Association for the application for the full Branch status to be circulated to all Chairmen and Secretaries of the 125 branches of the Association in order for the application to be set down for hearing at the National Executive Committee meeting of the Nigerian Bar Association in November, 2019.
The meeting resolved to storm the November NEC in large numbers to push for the full Branch status and also embark on aggressive membership drive and registration with payment of Membership Dues by members.

The meeting suspended the Monthly Knowledge Sharing Seminar Series to resume in January, 2020 with the “How To Succeed in Law School Initiative Series” in collaboration with the Lagos Campus of the Nigerian Law School at the Victoria Island Campus. The meeting mandated the leadership to explore discussion with interested groups towards the hosting of a State of the Nation Symposium in late November, 2019 and End -of-the Year Dinner, Awards and Party in December, 2019. The meeting constituted a three -man Steering Committee for the “How To Succeed in Law School” Inititiative with Ayodele Ademiluyi Esq. as Chairman, Femi Fangnon Esq. , the Chairman of the Young Lawyers’ Forum as Secretary and cerebral legal author, Olufemi Adisa-Isikalu as Member.

The meeting reconstituted the Young Lawyers’ Forum as the Young Lawyers’ Forum of the Lekki-Eti-Osa Forum of the Nigerian Bar Association.The meeting resolved to roll out set of innovative programmes for young lawyers within jurisdiction through the Young Lawyers’ Forum of the Lekki-Eti-Osa Forum of the Nigerian Bar Association.

The meeting resolved that the Lekki-Eti-Osa Forum of the Nigerian Bar Association would massively attend the Annual Conference of the Section on Public Interest and Development Law of the Nigerian Bar Association holding between 5th and 9th November, 2019 at Aba. The meeting enjoined members of the Forum to register and take advantage of the subdisized Hotel rates made available by the Section.

The members of the Lekki-Eti-Osa Forum is further strengthened to take further her quest for a distinct Lekki-Eti-Osa Division of the High Court of Lagos State , Lekki-Eti-Osa Magisterial District of the Magistrate Court of Lagos State and the Lekki-Eti-Osa Branch of the Nigerian Bar Association.
