Lawyer Jailed by Magistrate: NBA Abuja set to Move Application for Reversal of Detention Order

The Nigerian Bar Association, NBA Abuja Branch has announced it will intervene in the matter of its jailed member, Eburu Barth by filing an application for reversal of detention order.

This is contained in a statement signed by the Branch Secretary, Eric Ibe.

Mr Barth was cited, charged and convicted for Contempt of Court by a magistrate in Abuja.

“Earlier today the NBA Abuja Branch was informed that one of our members, Mr. Eburu Ekwe Barth, was cited, tried and sentenced for contempt of Court by His Worship Ibrahim Mohammed of the Wuse Zone 6, Magistrate Court.” The statement said.

“Since we became aware of this state of affairs, the Branch has been in constant communication with Mr. Eburu Ekwe Barth, as well as the leadership of the Correctional Service.

“Notwithstanding the unfortunate nature of the situation, the leadership of the Correctional Services have assured us that he will be placed in safe custody.

“We have also liaised with the leadership of the Nigerian Correctional Service and are working on having Mr. Eburu produced in Court for the hearing of our application for the reversal of the detention order.”
