Open Letter to President Muhammadu Buhari

President Muhammadu Buhari, GCFR Executive President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria
Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces
The Presidency,
Aso Rock Villa, Three Arms Zone,
Federal Capital Territory,
Abuja.

Your Excellency,

THE DISTURBING STATE OF THE INSECURITY OF OUR NATION

As a citizen, a patriot and a long-standing member of the judiciary, I like other well-meaning Nigerians who believe in this country, cannot ignore what is going on in this country any longer.
Against all odds, you were duly re-elected as President of this country, and you willingly swore to the 1st Oath of the Seventh schedule of the 1999 Constitution [as amended].
The security status of our great country Nigeria, through thorough evaluation and final summation, is that Nigeria is not safe to live in.
I recall vividly as a teenager in this great country and as a student of Federal Government College Sokoto, when you were a Major-General in the Nigerian Army and you protected us from the insurgency of the deadly “Metacine Sect” and chased the rest of them into Chad.
When you took over power as Head of State, no enemy could try anything with Nigeria, talk less of attack our citizens in their own states. But today we have unlimited records of attacks and killings of
Nigerians in their own villages in their respective states of origin in Nigeria. What has happened Mr. President?
Surprisingly, the people carrying out these killings are not only armed with assault rifles, they claim to be herdsmen. The few of them that have been arrested, upon confrontation cannot speak Hausa or
Fulani language, or even pidgin English, but are fluent in French.
How they are able to penetrate each state of the Federation where they have killed and caused mayhem like burning of farmlands and houses is still a mystery to me.

These people are commonly referred to in Nigeria as “Killer Herdsmen”.
Unfortunately, during the last dispensation, the 8th Assembly under the distinguished leadership of the Senate President, Senator [Dr] Bukola Saraki and the Speaker of the Federal House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Yakubu Dogara; failed to label these Killer Herdsmen as “TERRORISTS”, which they should have.

Amidst the disturbing activities of these Killer Herdsmen, we are duly informed that the Miyetti Allah Group has been paid over a N100Billion by the Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, Mr. Godwin
Emefiele, upon the recommendation of your former Minister for Internal Affairs Lt.Gen. Abdulrahman Dambazzau [Rtd].

There was however no recommendation for compensation of those people and families whose homes, farmlands were burnt and destroyed and whose family members were slaughtered all over the Federation.

I humbly urge you to consider a special compensatory package for those whose families have been slaughtered and whose farmlands and homes have been destroyed. Just like the members of MiyettiAllah, they are Nigerians too.

Your Excellency, this brings me to the very pressing issue of the RUGA Settlement. I must commend you Mr. President for suspending the initiative of the settlement being placed in every state of the Federation. I believe every state willing to participate in the RUGA scheme should indicate their interest.
Mr. President you are the No. 1 citizen in this country today. By virtue of your age, experience, legacy and willingness to serve, you can be considered a father of this nation. What some ex-Head of State
failed to achieve in 19 years, you can achieve it in the next 4 years. The whole country will co-operate with you, if you draw the 464 tribes in the 6 geo-political zones together and plan together with them.
Finally, Mr. President, too many Nigerians have died as a result of Insurgency, unnecessary ssassinations, communal clashes, kidnapping, armed robbery and Cross-border banditry. We, Nigerians need
you now most of all to protect us, protect Nigeria, and focus seriously on the repair of the economy.
I humbly remind you Mr. President of section 14[1] and [2] of the 1999 Constitution [as amended] which states and I quote:
“14[1] The Federal Republic of Nigeria shall be a State based on the principles of democracy and social justice.
[2] It is hereby, accordingly, declared that:- sovereignty belongs to the people of Nigeria from whom government through this Constitution derives all its powers and authority; the security and welfare of the people shall be the primary purpose of government;….”

This reiteration is at the request and the behest of the masses of our great country Nigeria. A former President of this country General Olusegun Obasanjo[Rtd] is already drumming the sounds of an impending vivil war, which can be averted if all Nigerians are treated fairly regardless of what part of the country you come from.

Mr. President, it is time to rebuild our nation Nigeria, which remains the most populous black nation on the face of the earth.

God bless you Mr. President, God bless the people of Nigeria and God bless the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

Yours Sincerely,
For: Mohammed Fawehinmi Chambers
Signed
Mohammed Fawehinmi, Esq.
