Midwest Bar Forum Condemns the Tribal Invective Poured on Our Immediate Past President of the Nigerian Bar Association, Olumide Akpata, Esq.

The attention of the Midwest Bar Forum has been drawn to a statement credited to Niyi Akintola SAN, one who we consider to be one of the elders of the Nigerian Bar but of which his tribal invective against the reverred immediate past president of the Nigerian Bar Association, Olumide Akpata Esq left much to be desired.

We rebut all the misrepresentation of facts laced with falsehoods, as depicted in the very caustic, insulting and degrading statement of the learned silk, which denigrates the office and the person of the immediate past President of the largest Bar in Africa. A Senior Advocate being one of a distinctive rank must be measured in his statements. We find the statement credited to Niyi Akintola SAN, as divisive , tribalistic, demeaning. It is not in our tradition as lawyers to pander to tribalism and clannish tendencies. What we have at least for now is the Nigerian Bar. We must pay respect to constituted authority at the Bar, doing other wise will have dare consequences for the legal profession and the society at large.

We restate that Olumide Akpata Esq , has distinguished himself as President of the Nigerian Bar Association as the records are there for all to see. We call on all and sundry to bury their hatchet and ventilate their grievances within the confines of the law.
