Nasarawa Magistrate’s Court Sentences Man to 14 Years Imprisonment for Kidnapping, 4 Years for Unlawful Assembly


The Senior Magistrate of Upper Area Court Nasarawa, Eggon, Abdullahi Shams Shama, Thursday convicted and sentenced one Usman Mohammed and 14 years with hard labour for the offence of Kidnapping contrary to section 274 of the Penal Code, and to four years imprisonment with a fine of fifty thousand Naira for the offence of Unlawful Assembly contrary to section 104 of penal code.

The sentences are to run consecutively.

The 24-year-old who resides at Shagari village, Lokoja, was charged in case No. UACNE/CR 138/2019

The defendant admitted to committing the offence of Kidnapping two times and was arrested on the third attempt by the officers of State Security Services, Nasarawa State command, that on the 18th May 2019 the convict conspired with others who are still at large to abduct Alhaji Umar Abubakar and Abdullahi Ali from Nasarawa.

It was upon intelligence gathering and technical surveillance combined that the team of State Security operatives arrested the convict.
