On Tuesday, 11th February, 2020, during the statutory monthly meeting of the Nigerian Bar Association,NBA, Ikere Ekiti, the mini law library was declared open. The project was championed by the Oludayo Olorunfemi led Exco of the branch. The Chairman, Oludayo Olorunfemi, during their 2019 law week had reached out to dignitaries, senior lawyers, and a group she refers to as ‘Friends of Oludee’ to make donations in kind to the library project rather than cash donations.
Friends of Oludee have made good their promise by donating a complete set of the Law of the Federation of Nigeria, complete volumes of Monthly Judgments of Supreme Court of Nigeria for the period 2004-2014 and other practice and textbooks. The library project also received a complete set of the Laws of Ekiti State and copies of the Ekiti State Palace Court Judgments as donations from the Attorney General of the State, Mr. Olawale Fapohunda.
Speaking at the meeting today, the Chairman emphasised the need to have a reference library at the bar center. Oludayo said it will be a hub where lawyers, especially young lawyers, can have access to law reports, practise guides, law textbooks and journals.
Hon Justice O.I.O Ogunyemi, the presiding judge of the High Court Ikere Judicial Division while declaring the mini law library open commended the vision of the Chairman saying this is a first of its kind in Ekiti. He then went on to commend lawyers within the jurisdiction to take advantage of the library.
The branch is calling for more donations in kind from all well meaning members of the legal profession and the general public.
The library, which is a reference library, is opened to all lawyers within the state.
