NBA Lekki Forum Restructures ExCo, Constitutes Standing Committees| Other Resolutions Reached

Resolutions of the Emergency Executive Committee Meeting of NBA Lekki Forum Held On 10th September, 2019 at NBA Lekki Forum Secretariat, Suite 16, Amabec Plaza , Addo Road, Ajah, Lagos State.


Arising from an Emergency Executive Committee of the Nigerian Bar Association, Lekki Forum the following resolutions were reached:

A. RESTRUCTURING OF EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE
That the Executive Committee of the Lekki Forum of the Nigerian Bar Association be restructured as follows in compliance with Section 6(1) of Part 1 of the Third Schedule to the extant NBA Constitution(2015 as amended) in view of the aggressive completion of the High Court Building and imminent accreditation of Lekki Branch based on the incoming Division of High Court of Lagos State as follows:

In view of the above , take notice that the consequential audit shall be made to add the new members of the Executive Committee and relief old members of the WhatsApp group.

b. Website, Membership Drive and Formalisation.

It was resolved that the legal information technology firm of Messrs. WeCrea8 Limited be instructed to develop a website with the domain name www.nbalekki.org with capacity for membership registration online and regular news update of the events of the Forum as we intend to run Nigeria’s first total virtual branch of the Nigerian Bar Association.

c. Proposed Standing and Ad-hoc Committee leaderships.

In compliance with the extant Constitution of the Nigerian Bar Association, the meeting resolved to constitute the following Standing Committees and leaderships as follows:

d.October Special Monthly Meeting and Special Seminar with Rule of Law Committee of the Section of Public Interest and Development Law of the Nigerian Bar Association.

The meeting resolved that a Special October 2019 Monthly Meeting be held on Tuesday, 14th October, 2019 at the Nigerian Law School, Lagos Campus by 1pm. It was resolved to write the management of the Lagos Campus of the Nigerian Law School be written accordingly. The Special Monthly Meeting will commence with a Special Knowledge Sharing Seminar with the Rule of Law Committee of the Section on Public Interest and Development Law of the Nigerian Bar Association . The management of the Nigerian Law School, Lagos Campus will be encouraged to benefit from the Knowledge Sharing Seminar as part of the ” How to Succeed in Law School” initiative of the Lekki Forum.

It was agreed to seek out Hosts for the Special Monthly Meeting.

e.Preparation for High Court of Lagos State New Legal Year.

The meeting agreed to participate actively in the New Legal Year 2019/2020 Ceremonies of the High Court of Lagos State. It was agreed that a letter be written to the Chief Judge of Lagos State to appreciate His Lordship for the aggressive work on the High Court Building, request for the naming of the High Court Building after Honourable Justice Adesola Oguntade and date for the inauguration of th Division.

  1. FINANCE
    a. Resolution on Signatories

The meeting resolved that in compliance with the Constitution of the NBA (2015 as amended), the Chairman, Oladotun Hassan Esq . , Secretary, Ayo Ademiluyi Esq and Treasurer, Folake Omoya Esq. be appointed as signatories to the Forum’s account.

b.Resolution on Bankers

It was agreed that Access and Fidelity Banks be the Bankers of the Forum.

c. Resolution on Forum Dues

It was agreed that the Forum dues be set out as follows:
0-5 years: N1, 000.00
6-10: N2,000.00
10-15: N3,000.00
15-20: N5, 000.00
20 and above-N10,000.00
SAN and Benchers- N50,000.00

However, it should noted that once the Forum becomes a full-fledged Branch, Annual dues will be regularized in compliance with the NBA Branch payment standards.

  1. PROGRESS ON ACCREDITATION OF LEKKI BRANCH

The meeting accepted the supportive Letter of Recommendation by Badagry Branch . The meeting observed the aggressive work on the new High Court Building and the imminent inauguration of the Division. The meeting resolved that a letter be written to the General Secretary to set down our application for Lekki Branch as an agendum at the NEC meeting in October or November with an application for waiver for Executive Committee who are active but do not meet technical requirements of the offices.

  1. ANY OTHER BUSINESS
    a. Preparations for NBA SPIDEL Annual Conference at Aba from 5-9 November, 2019.

The meeting agreed on Synergy with the Section on Public Interest and Development Law of the Nigerian Bar Association under the Chairmanship of Dr. Paul Ananaba SAN .The meeting observed the upcoming Annual Conference of the Section from 5th to 9th November, 2019 at Aba. The Forum agreed to work out details of FORUM participation at the Annual Conference.
