The Academic Staff Union of Research Institutions(ASURI) has appointed Dr. Tonye Clinton Jaja as National legal adviser.
Dr. Jaja is the Secretary of the Association of Legislative Drafting and Advocacy
Practitioners (ALDRAP). Among many feats. He has is also the former chairman of the Governing Board of the Nigerian Copyright Commission.
“While this is a volunteer position, we expect you will also provide legal assistance when needed in relation to the Union’s advocacy concerning the National Research and Innovation Council (NRIC) Bill which has already passed Public Hearing stage at the Senate. Please accept the good wishes of ASURI.” The Secretary General of the union, Professor Theophilus Ndubuaku, FCSS said.
ASURI represents the interests of Research Fellows in Federal Research and Development Institutions (RDIs), Inter-University Centres, Colleges of Agriculture and Forestry, and Allied Institutions. It is registered under the Trade Unions Act Cap 437 of 1990 as amended by the Trade Unions (Amendment) 1996 as a trade union.
The Union comprises all the researchers in Nigeria and it cuts across twelve ministries.
