The Hon. President of the Court of Appeal, Hon Justice Dongban-Mensem(HPCA),has constituted the Governorship, National and State Houses of Assembly Election Petition Tribunals for Rivers State.
This is by virtue of the powers conferred on her under section 285 (2) and (3) of the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria 1999 (as amended) and Section 131 (1) of the Electoral Act, 2022 (as amended).
In a statement to the press, the Secretary of the tribunals, Umar Abubakar, Esq., reiterated that the mandate of the Tribunals is to hear and determine election petition(s) that may arise from the upcoming 2023 general rlections in Rivers State.
“Sequel to the above, the Honorable Chief Judge of Rivers State, Honorable Justice Simeon Chibuzor Amadi, has granted the use of Magistrate Court 1 hall, Second Floor, Block A, Rivers State High Court Complex, Station Road, Port Harcourt, to be used by the Governorship Panel and Magistrate Court 3 hall, Second Floor, Block A, of the same address for use of the Legislative Panel of the Tribunal respectively,” Mr. Abubakar said.
