Following an announcement of a curfew by the Edo State Government to curtail the pockets of chaos reported in the metropolis, the Nigerian Bar Association, NBA, Benin Branch has expediently constituted a seven member Committee to check human rights violations.
In a statement, the Publicity Secretary of NBA Benin Branch, Ogaga Emoghwanre said that “There is an emergency situation in Edo State. As hoodlums showcased arms and took over the streets. The state government declared a curfew for 24hours starting in some hours from now.
“In protecting the lives and rights of citizens. The Nigerian Bar Association Benin Branch, in a quick response has decided to set up a 7-Man Committee task force to monitor the observance of Human Rights and prevent abuses of same.”
