Dhikrullah Adewale Balogun (DAB) Congratulates NBA Ota Branch (Utter Bar) on the Success of Its Maiden Law Week

Vice Chairman of the Nigerian Bar Association Ilorin Branch, Dhikrullah Adewale Balogun congratulates the leadership and entire members of NBA Ota Branch Upon the successful hosting of their first law week.

Mr. Balogun said in a statement on Thursday:

“The Nigerian Bar Association, NBA, Ota Branch recently concluded its Inaugural annual Law week. The law week, which began on the 1st and ended on the 7th of October, happens to be one event still on the lips of all the attendees.

The NBA Ota Branch, as a vibrant NBA Branch in Nigeria organised a power-packed law week — making the 2021 edition yet another impeccable testimony to this fact

From the theme of the Law week – “TECHNOLOGY AND ADMINISTRATION OF JUSTICE: PRESENT DAY REALITIES”, to events that the week had embedded in it, there is no doubting the fact that the Utter Bar has yet delivered a masterpiece event. The different discussants at the law week indeed further pressed home the point that it is incumbent on the Nigerian legal parlance to embrace technology if we are to match up with our contemporaries across other jurisdictions.

Change is a constant “K” in life and day in, day out, technological inventions come up, just to ease human activities. The introduction of artificial intelligence (AI) in virtually all aspects of human endeavor and the speed of its momentum is the basis for which I advocate that Nigeria should adopt the use of technology in the administration of justice while as lawyers, we should as well scale up our technological know how in the practice of law.

It is becoming ancient in other jurisdictions to require a judge to take arguments down in longhand as courtrooms are already being computerized and proceedings are held online; copies of judgments are being sent to lawyers via mail and electronic filing of cases are being encouraged.

Once again, Nigeria needs to embrace technology in the administration of Justice and Law Practice; because in the final analysis, the world has become a global village and technology now has become impactful in all facets of human endeavors.

I ultimately congratulate the executives and entire members of the NBA Ota Branch on the success of their Law Week. I wish you many more successes ahead.

Dhikrullah Adewale Balogun (DAB)
Vice Chairman, NBA Ilorin Branch.
