The Vice Chairman of the Nigerian Bar Association, Ilorin Branch, Dhikrullah Adewale Balogun (DAB) has commended stakeholders and particularly the National Assembly on the passage of the Arbitration and Conciliation Bill.
According to the aspirant for the position of Assistant General Secretary of the NBA, the passage of the bill is a very welcome development in the history of law making in Nigeria, as it will assist the practice of law and the administration of justice in many respect.
According to him “The passage of the bill by the Senate after it was passed by the House of Representatives is highly commendable and a landmark achievement. The repeal of the old 1988 Act is long over due as it no longer adequately caters for the needs of the arbitration community.
I therefore urge the National Assembly to urgently come up with the harmonised version of the bill for onward transmission to the President for assent.
I’m very much aware that a lot of effort came from the leadership of the NBA, legal practitioners and stakeholders, particularly the CIArb Nigeria, who attended the various public hearings towards ensuring the passage of this bill. I commend you all.
When this bill is finally assented to, its role and effect cannot be overemphasized.
I therefore urge critical stakeholders to ensure the eventual assent to this bill by Mr. President.
Congratulations to the arbitration community and the Nigerian Bar Association.
Dhikrullah Adewale Balogun (DAB),
Vice Chairman, NBA Ilorin Branch.
