After a two year advocacy championed by Human Rights Lawyer, Vincent Adodo, the Federal Ministry of Works has awarded a contract for the construction/Rehabilitation of Abuja-Keffi Expressway to a company known as Messrs China Harbour Engineering Co. Nigeria Limited.
This development was communicated to the human rights lawyer by the Federal Roads Maintenance Agency (FERMA) in a letter dated the 12th December 2024.
The legal practitioner had in September 2022 addressed a letter to the Managing Director of the Federal Roads Maintenance Agency (FERMA) demanding urgent repairs of the failed portions of the Abuja Keffi Expressway especially at the Abacha Road – Nyanya Checkpoint axis. The lawyer contended that the situation of the dilapidated portions inflicted untold sufferings on commuters.
In October 2024 when the dilapidated situation of the road continued to pose more difficulty to commuters along the Mararaba Nyanya Road, the lawyer again addressed another demand to the Managing Director of FERMA calling on the agency to repair the failed portions of the road.
Reprieve finally came the way of thousands of commuters plying the road on a daily basis with the award of the contract for the rehabilitation of the road to a contractor.
