Every year the Hon. Justice Innocent Umezulike Foundation awards full law degree scholarships to deserving undergraduate students passionate about the law. The 2024 award ceremony, which was held at the University of Lagos presented a full law degree scholarship award to Miss Abejide Adesola Elizabeth, an exceptionally brilliant law student at the University of Lagos. Miss Abejide’s law degree scholarship fund includes full tuition fees, accommodation, law textbook payment throughout the duration of her LLB program at the University of Lagos, Nigeria.
According to the foundation’s co-chair Dr Cynthia C. Umezulike; “the scholarship award selection process was arduous; however, the board’s final decision rested on a multifaceted combination of academic excellence, grit, determination to succeed against all odds, and persistence in the face of adversity and passion to practice law.
Dr Victor Azubike Umezulike, the foundation co-chair, affirmed the foundation’s obligation to ensure that Miss Abejide and other awardees succeed personally and professionally. “The foundation is committed to aiding the awardees academic development from undergraduate to postgraduate degree level”, she reiterated. Speaking during the award ceremony, the University of Lagos, Dean of Law Professor Abiola Sanni SAN praised the foundation for their remarkable investment in legal education and determination to uphold the legacy of his late colleague Justice Prof Innocent Azubike Umezulike OFR, FCIARB FIIAN.

The Hon. Justice Innocent Umezulike Foundation was established to advance the legacy of Hon. Justice Innocent Umezulike, OFR, FCIRB, FIIAN – one of Nigeria’s astute Chief Judges and Professor emeritus. Umezulike was the best mastery in his law knowledge, distinguished for his expertise in Land and Property Law, had to his credit over 25 law books before his eternal bow in 2018.
