
The Lekki-Eti-Osa Forum of the Nigerian Bar Association, NBA,and the Save Eti-Osa and Ibeju-Lekki Coalition, SEIBEC, arising from a Joint Stakeholders’ Meeting has issued a fresh 21-day ultimatum to the Lagos State Government to act to prevent new episodes of flooding, address the terrible state of roads and obnoxious tolling in Ibeju-Lekki and Eti-Osa Local Government Areas, failing which it will provide leadership to a wider mass movement to push the demands of the residents of these areas.
The Area Commander of “J” Command, Assistant Commissioner of Police Gbolahan M. Olugbemi also graced the Stakeholders’ Meeting convened by the Nigerian Bar Association, Lekki-Eti-Osa Forum and the Save Eti-Osa and Ibeju-Lekki Coalition (SEIBEC) to prepare for the Save Eti-Osa and Ibeju-Lekki Town Hall Meeting and Mass Protest scheduled for Saturday, 26th October, 2019.
It would be recalled that arising from the Special Session on the State of the Nation of the Executive Committee of the Lekki-Eti-Osa Forum of NBA, the body entered into alliance with other civil society groups including but not limited to Take-it-back Movement, Anti-Lekki Tolling Movement, Coalition of Eti-Osa House of Representatives and Assembly Candidates , Eti-Osa Development Initiative and Ibeju-Lekki Movement to form the Save Eti-Osa and Ibeju-Lekki Coalition.
The Stakeholders’ Meeting which was held at the Secretariat Annex of the Lekki-Eti-Osa Forum of the Nigerian Bar Association was chaired by the Co-Chairpersons of the Save Eti-Osa and Ibeju-Lekki Coalition, Mr. Oladotun Hassan Esq. , Chairman of the NBALekki-Eti-Osa Forum and Elizabeth Ekanem, the Coordinator of Eti-Osa and Ibeju-Lekki Chapter of the Take-it-back Movement.
In his remarks , Mr. Oladotun Hassan expressed the fact that the Save Eti-Osa and Ibeju-Lekki Town Hall Meeting has become imperative at the face of the degenerating state of flooding, terrible State of roads and the obnoxious and fruitless Tolling at the Admiralty Toll Plaza and Ikoyi Link Bridge Toll Plaza without any change of fortune for the residents either in the upgrading of the roads or drainages. He submitted that to add insult to injury, the Lekki Concession Company has perfected plans to introduce mandatory E-Tag at the Ikoyi Link Bridge Toll Plaza by November 1st, 2019 . He recalled the synergy struck by the Lekki-Eti-Osa Forum of the Nigerian Bar Association with the Office of the Area Commander , Area “J” covering Eti-Osa, Ibeju-Lekki and Epe on security and advocated for further synergy .
Ayo Ademiluyi Esq ., the Secretary of the Lekki-Eti-Osa Forum of the Nigerian Bar Association and the Co-Secretary of the Save Eti-Osa and Ibeju-Lekki Coalition in his remarks stated that there is need to strengthen ties between the Office of the Area Commander, Area “J” Command towards combating the challenges of security, environment and infrastructure in Eti-Osa and Ibeju-Lekki local government areas.
In his remarks, Assistant Commissioner of Police Gbolahan M. Olugbemi saluted the efforts of the Lekki-Eti-Osa Forum of the Nigerian Bar Association for the initiative . He stressed the need to explore wider consultation in order to arrive at holistic solution to the crisis of both Eti-Osa and Ibeju-Lekki. He agreed to work with the Lekki-Eti-Osa Forum of the Nigerian Bar Association
and the Save Eti-Osa and Ibeju-Lekki Coalition towards finding holistic solution to the crisis.
The Stakeholders’ meeting in session resolved that the Mandatory E-Tag Policy to be introduced at the Ikoyi Link Bridge with immediate effect. The meeting resolved to place a 21 -days’ ultimatum on the Lagos State Government within which it can explore wider consultation with the Lekki-Eti-Osa of the Nigerian Bar Association and the Save Eti-Osa and Ibeju-Lekki Coalition in tackling the challenges of security, education and infrastructure challenges facing residents within the jurisdiction by convening a JOINT
SECURITY , ENVIRONMENT AND INFRASTRUCTURE (SEI) SUMMIT.
The Stakeholders’ meeting resolved to intensify preparations for the Save Eti-Osa and Ibeju-Lekki Town Hall Meeting as a step in the consultation process with community and other interest groups on Saturday, 26th October, 2019 at Jakande Open Field, Jakande , Lekki, Lagos State by 10am.
Elizabeth Ekanem, Coordinator of the Take-it-back Movement , Eti-Osa and Ibeju-Lekki Chapter and Co- Chairperson of the Save Eti-Osa and Ibeju-Lekki Coalition stated the preparedness of the Coalition towards the successful hosting of the Town Hall Meeting and Mass Protest.
The Lekki-Eti-Osa Forum of the Nigerian Bar Association and the Save Eti-Osa and Ibeju-Lekki Coalition is further strengthened in its mission to tackle the challenges of security, environment and infrastructure in its jurisdiction .
