Int’l Day of the Girl Child: NBA Ikorodu Branch Commemorates Day with Schoolgirls

Mrs. Adekoya, along with other branch members, addresses female students of the community senior secondary in Gberigbe.

Mrs Toun Adekoya, the Chairperson, Committee Against Domestic Violence and Child Abuse of the Nigerian Bar Association, NBA, Ikorodu branch lead a school tour to commemorate the 2019 International Day of the Girl Child Friday.

Mrs. Adekoya addressed the female students of the community senior secondary schools in Baiyeku and Gberigbe, both in Ikorodu.

The Committee also presented sanitary pads to the girls.

The International Day of the Girl Child focuses attention on the need to address the challenges girls face and to promote girls’ empowerment and the fulfilment of their human rights.

Adolescent girls have the right to a safe, educated, and healthy life, not only during these critical formative years, but also as they mature into women. If effectively supported during the adolescent years, girls have the potential to change the world – both as the empowered girls of today and as tomorrow’s mothers, workers, entrepreneurs, mentors, household leaders and political leaders.

This support is what NBA Ikorodu branch has given to the girls. A memorable, life-changing motivational experience to help them unto the paths of productivity.

When we invest in realising the power of young adult girls, this move upholds their rights today and promises a more equitable and prosperous future, one in which half of humanity is an equal partner in solving the problems of political conflict, economic growth, disease prevention, and global sustainable development.
