
At the National Convention of the Law Students of Association of Nigeria (LAWSAN) 2022 held on Thursday, November 10, 2022, at the garden city of Port Harcourt which was hosted at the recently built prestigious campus of the Nigerian Law School, Port Harcourt, a cross section of Nigerian students from both the public and private universities gathered to cross fertilize ideas, gain knowledge and network.
The theme of the Conference which was “Exploring the New Frontiers in the Legal Profession” was aptly spoken to by the revered learned silk popularly referred to as Chief J-K Gadzama, SAN who was ably represented by George Tamunuokoro Akuro Esq., a barman and an eminent member of the Port Harcourt branch of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA).
During his keynote address, J-K Gadzama, SAN highlighted the new frontiers in the legal profession which are also the emerging and evolving areas of specialization occupying the front burners of the 21st century legal practice. They include such new areas of specialization as entertainment/media law, sports law, intellectually property law, cyber security and data protection law, ICT/technology law, renewable energy law, banking and fintech/E-commerce, space law; amongst others.
Also, in the Keynote Address, Chief Gadzama advised the very attentive and inquisitive young law students to master their chosen practice areas as industry specialists, be it as corporate/commercial lawyers, transactional solicitors or as disputes resolution, or as lawyers majoring in fulltime litigation and arbitration.
In recognition of the strides, accomplishments and efforts to the advancement of the legal profession, the LAWSAN at its Law Dinner to mark the end of the Conference presented to J-K Gadzama, SAN an award of special recognition for his immense contribution to the growth and development of LAWSAN.
Also in present at the event was Mr. Peter Obi, the presidential candidate of the Labour Party, and Mr. Omoyele Sowore , the presidential candidate of the African Action Congress. Amongst others in attendance were also lawyers such as Chief Emeka Obegolu of the NBA Unity bar and barmen of the NBA Port Harcourt Branch, Lecturers from the Nigerian Law School, Port Harcourt Campus, members of the press, amongst others.
