The former president of the United States of America, Barack Obama said “ if you want to change the world, invest in a girl.
Now more than ever, we have seen the impact of an empowered girl child as a nation and even in the world. In our world today , we have the opportunity to live amongst groundbreaking women, who have shaped our country and our world at large. Women like our Amina Mohammed, Dr. Dora Akunyili and Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, have taken the world by storm and have continued to be inspirations to the girl child all over the world.
In recognition of the importance of the girl child every year on October 11, the world observes the International day of the Girl child. The United Nations General Assembly has designated this day as a day to empower the Girl child and to let her know that she is important, valued and respected.
This year in the spirit of celebrating the Girl child, Chief Joe-Kyari Gadzama, SAN, the president of Vox populi foundation stated that this year’s theme “Our time is now-Our right, Our future”is very apt, considering the myriad of challenges faced by the girl child globally.
Chief Gadzama, thereafter called for an increase in the investments and protection of the rights of the girl child, education, security and development of the girl child.
While calling for support for the laudable efforts and initiatives of the United Nations towards the empowerment of the girl child, Chief Gadzama said the Vox Populi Foundation would join other national and international organizations to advocate for the rights of the girl child and also empower the girl child. Thereafter, he stated that, in whatever capacity we hold, be it as fathers, brothers, sisters, employers, employees or howsoever, that we need to remember to do all we can to empower and protect the Girl child.
Also joining other public and private sector organizations on 11th October, 2022 to commemorate the 10th anniversary of the International Day of the Girl child is the Vox Populi Foundation. The Foundation is a non-partisan, non-religious, non-cultural and non-governmental organization and pressure group that preaches and pushes for the enforcement and entrenchment of good leadership in Nigeria, in all sectors of the society on the ideals of good governance, transparency, accountability, integrity and excellence.
