A state counsel with the Department of Public Prosecution, Ministry of Justice Akwa Ibom State, Barr. Itoro Sylvanus Eteh, has been arrested and detained by the police at Zone 6 Calabar, Cross River State.
Mr Eteh is reported to have been locked up for the forth day.
In a statement signed by Celestine Essien Etoedia and tagged “SOS to NBA” Eteh has allegedly been framed for conspiracy and murder of a suspect in the police cell at Ikot Akpan Abia which occurred in May 2018.
According to the statement;
“Barr Eteh had been covering the case for his village and members of his own family since May 2018 but the O/C, CSP Owuzo picked offence that the matter was charged to Court under the fundamental human right by Barr Eteh.
“He vowed to deal ruthlessly with Barr Eteh for “stabbing him from behind”.
“Last Friday a contingent of policemen from Calabar and Area Command, Ik stormed Barr Eteh’s residence, broke into his apartment at 9.00pm and arrested him.
“Any family member who makes efforts to visit him in cell are being threatened with arrest and intimidated. Barr Eteh has refused efforts by the CSP to extort money from the village.
Please as a body of learned and noble gentlemen, kindly assist the family for his bail.
We would appreciate it also if you could draw the attention of the DPP and the Attorney General of Akwa Ibom State to this sad development.
