Kidnap of Iyioha Osobase Omon: Kunle Edun Calls for Peaceful Protest if He is not Released Soon Unhurt

It is sad to hear again that another lawyer, Mr. Iyioha Osobase Omon, a Benin based lawyer, was kidnapped few days ago by yet to be identified persons.

This kidnapping is one too many and is emblematic of the present worsening security situation in Nigeria. Inspite of the commendable efforts by the NBA Benin branch to stop the kidnapping of its members, the crime still persists. It is the responsibility of government to protect lives and property of its citizens. The kidnapping of citizen Iyiosa and other Nigerians are the consequences of inept political leadership and security failures.

The Federal and State governments, including the security apparatus in Edo State must step in to ensure that Iyiosa is released quickly and unhurt.

Failure thereof, i shall in my personal capacity, consult with bar leaders and colleagues and take more drastic steps to ensure that government is alive to its responsibilities and this will include embarking on a peaceful protest to the office of the Governor of Edo State, the Speaker of the House of Assembly and the Commissioner for Police in Edo State.

This will be done to let the whole world know the state of insecurity in Edo State and of course, Nigeria.
