The National Publicity Secretary of the Nigerian Bar Association, Mr. Kunle Edun has commended the Chief Judge of Delta State, Hon. Justice Marshall Mukoro for extending the 2019/2020 legal year.
The calendar will now terminate on the 7th of September, 2020 while the Annual Vacation for the Honorable Judges commences on Monday, the 7th of September, 2020, ending on Friday, 25th of September, 2020.
Conversely, the 2020/2021 Legal Year commences on Monday, the 28th of September, 2020.
The changes were made in view of the present compelling circumstances occasioned by the COVID-19 pandemic which led the courts to shut down for some weeks.
Kunle Edun also congratulates the 5 newly sworn in Honorable Judges of the Delta State judiciary and urges their Lordships to ensure that they dispense justice in all matters before them no matter the situation and without fear or favour.
Edun noted that, unfortunately, Delta State still has shortage of Judges as some of the Honorable Judges still run two courts, thus putting much pressure on them.
Mr. Edun urged the National Judicial Council to consider the peculiar situation of Delta State and direct that the existing vacancies be filled. This will go a long way to ensure that Justice is brought closer to the people and cases are treated with despatch to cater for the population and growing business activities in Delta State.
