On Thursday, June 23, 2022, friends of Chief Joe-Kyari Gadzama, SAN including Francis Oronsaye (Managing Partner at J-K Gadzama LLP), Binanu Esthon (Former Chairman Yola Branch), Ever Odo (Former Chairman Yola Branch), Jibril Jmeta (Incumbent Chairman, Yola Branch, Frank Ogbe (Co-ordinator, Legal Aid Council), Solomon Garba and Leader Leneke (Chairman and PRO of the YLF respectively) and a host of others were led by Mr. Mela Audu Nunghe SAN to a hangout with members and executives of the NBA, Yola Branch. Beaming with smiles, the members and executives of the branch heartily received the friends of the Learned Silk.
Mr Ever Odo (Former Chairman of the branch) while giving his welcome address, noted that the Chief Joe-Kyari Gadzama, SAN was their own and that the J-K Presidency was a project which all members of the NBA, Yola Branch should key into. Further, he stated that, people from Yola should as a matter of fact, be at the forefront of projecting the J-K Project to others, and not Mr Mela Audu Nunge, SAN who represented the Learned Silk at the hangout.
While he noted that the hangout was his first meeting with Mr. Mela Nunghe, SAN, he stated that Mr. Francis Oronsaye (Managing Partner at J-K Gadzama LLP), was no stranger to them as he is as much a member of the branch as others; having lived and practiced in Yola for several years before his relocation to Abuja.
Furthermore, he reiterated the well-known fact that the Learned Silk, Joe-Kyari Gadzama, SAN is a man of action having served and dedicated his years of practice towards the advancement of the Bar. He noted that competence and qualifications of the candidate should be of primary importance. He also stated that cognizance should be given to the fact that the Northeast geopolitical zone in all fairness is entitled to producing the next NBA President; having not produced any since the inception of zoning in the Constitution. He stressed that in light of these factors, the Learned Silk was most qualified and as such, he urged all hands to be on deck in the pursuit of delivering the mandate of leadership to J-K Gadzama, SAN.
On his part, Mr. Binanu Esthon (Former Chairman of the Branch) recounted his personal relationship with the Learned Silk. He told members present that J-K Gadzama, SAN personally sponsored members of the exco to Abuja and also made efforts to convince members of the NBA Exco on the need for hosting an event for NBA NEC in Yola. The matter was put to a vote and the event eventually took place in Yola. This story was corroborated by Mr. Odo. He also recalled the prominent role J-K Gadzama, SAN played by leading his defence team on Appeal when he was convicted by the Federal High Court, Yola. This led to his eventual discharge and acquittal at the Court of Appeal. He urged members of the NBA, Yola branch to promote the plans as contained in the manifesto of the Learned Silk to ensure success for his aspiration to lead the NBA.
While thanking members of the Yola Bar, Mr Nunghe, SAN extended the warm regards of the Learned Silk and noted that the future of the noble legal profession lies in the hands of the young lawyers. He implored them to take a stand towards advancing the NBA. He extolled the qualities of the Learned Silk and noted that he was not the kind of politician who would make promises and fail as he personally witnessed his tenure as the Former Chairman of the NBA, Unity Bar, Abuja. He tasked those present to ensure victory for the Learned Silk in the entire North-East.
