The Nigerian Bar Association, NBA, Gombe Branch has set up a 7-man committee to prosecute assault by prison warders on a senior member of the branch, Mr Joseph Kolchi Esq.
In a statement signed by Alhussain Ibrahim Esq. Publicity Secretary of the Branch, the 7-man committee comprises of Mr I. M. Attahir, Mr P. A. Aki, Mr M. A. Galaya, Mr L. A. Haruna, Mr. A. M. Inuwa, Mr. Sati Benjamin and Mr Abubakar Kumo Abdullahi.
“We urge all members of the branch to join hands with the committee to prosecute the matter to its logical conclusion.” The statement said.
Recall that on 16th August, 2018 Prison Warders in Gombe molested and maltreated Mr. Kolchi, Esq. who is 30 years at the Bar.
In the course of duty, he visited his client in Gombe Prison, a minor
misunderstanding ensured between him and the warders.
The warders physically assaulted him to the extent that he became severely traumatised that he was unable to drive his car.
Mr Kolchi has since written a Pre-action Notice/Demand Letter to the Comptroller of Prisons, Nigerian Prison Service, Gombe State Command in a bid to set the wheel of Justice moving.
