NBA Lekki Forum Meets Chief Registrar of Lagos State High Court Over New High/Magistrate’s Court Building at Addo Road, Ajah, Lekki, Eti Osa

The Lekki Forum of the Nigerian Bar Association paid a courtesy visit to the Chief Registrar of the High Court of Lagos State on Tuesday, 15th October, 2019, at the High Court of Lagos State Complex , Ikeja in seeking synergy towards the commissioning of the new High /Magistrate Court Building at Addo Road, Ajah, Lekki, Eti-Osa Local Government Area of Lagos State in November, 2019.

It would be recalled that Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu, the Governor of Lagos State had stated his administration’s preparedness to commission the new High/ Magistrate Court Building, which is now at advanced stages of completion.

The delegation of the Lekki Forum was led by Oladotun Hassan Esq., Chairman and Ayodele Ademiluyi Esq., Secretary of the Lekki Forum of the Nigerian Bar Association.

Mrs. Olatokun, the Chief Registrar of the High/ Magistrate Court of Lagos State received the delegation in company of Mrs. Ipaye-Nwachukwu, the Deputy Chief Registrar of the High Court of Lagos State.

In his remarks, Mr. Ayo Ademiluyi, Secretary of the Lekki Forum stated the urgent need for construction of Car Park for lawyers and litigants with the High / Magistrate Court Building coming into full operation by November, 2019 . He also stated the need for allotment of Secretariat/ Cloak Roam for the Lekki Forum of the Nigerian Bar Association within the new High/Magistrate Court Building.

In his additional remarks, Mr. Oladotun Hassan reiterated the need for a Bar and Bench Forum for regular interface between the Bar and Bench. He recalled the meeting of the Lekki Forum with the Chief Judge of Lagos State, Honourable Justice Kazeem Alogba where same subject matter was raised and reiterated the need to set in motion the process for same.

The Chairman, reiterated the need to stop excessive police brutaluzation of lawyers and ill treatments by the police, precipitated the forum’s resolution to carry the office of the Chief Registrar along on the establishment of the Police Lawyers Relations Committee which was approved by the Commissioner of Police Lagos State Police Command CP Zubairu Muazu, this is expected to foster a robust relationship and promotion of a succinct administration of justice in Lagos State.

Furthermore, the committee is expected to also establish the Prison Dicongestion program.

In her response, the Chief Registrar of High Court of Lagos State , Mrs Olatokun stated that she is well conversant with the Lekki Forum of the Nigerian Bar Association, going by regular correspondences to the Office of the Chief Registrar of the High Court of Lagos State and meetings of the Forum with the outgone Chief Judge of Lagos State, Honourable Justice Opeyemi Oke(now retired) and the incumbent, Honourable Kazeem Alogba. She assured that a Cloak Room is already assigned within the High/Magistrate Court Building for robing of lawyers and stated the preparedness to work with the Lekki Forum towards the commissioning of the High/ Magistrate Court Building in November, 2019.

The Lekki Forum is further strengthened towards the commissioning of the new High/Magistrate Court Building in November, 2019 and the preparation towards the emergence of the Lekki Branch of the Nigerian Bar Association.
