NBA-SPIDEL Treasurer, Funmi Adeogun Congratulates NBA-SPIDEL on the Successful Conduct of Its Town Hall Meeting

Funmi Adeogun, Esq.

Treasurer of the Nigerian Bar Association Section on Public Interest Development and Litigation (NBA-SPIDEL), Funmi Adeogun, Esq. has extended her congratulations to the Governing Council and entire members of the Nigerian Bar Association Section on Public Interest Development and Litigation, NBA-SPIDEL for successfully hosting their town hall meeting.

“I congratulate the Nigerian Bar Association Section on Public Interest Development and Litigation (NBA-SPIDEL) for the succoessful conduct of its town hall meeting held in Lagos on the 28th of February, 2022.

“The meeting, themed, “Justiciability of Chapter Two of 1999 Constitution: Pragmatic Measures for Government’s Accountability” provided a strong platform to interrogate the need for the colourfully worded fundamental objectives and directive principles of state policy to be justiciable in order to promote the common good.

Today, it is generally accepted that all human rights are indivisible, interdependent, and interrelated.

“However, it is not enough to have a legal right; enforcement mechanisms must also be in place. This includes the possibility of legal recourse, which requires that the rights be justiciable. When these rights are perceived to have been violated, the right-holder must be able to take his/her claim before the courts, and if the claim is upheld, be granted a remedy, which can then be enforced.

“I also lend my voice to the call that there must be no legal or conceptual impediment to identifying and adjudicating violations of these rights.

“I commend the great lead speakers: Femi Falana SAN, Tony Ojukwu SAN and the distinguished discussants; Justice Onouha Ogwe, Sulaiman Usman SAN, Cecilia Aransiola, Wale Fapounda SAN, among others. I also commend all the participants at the event.

“The NBA-SPIDEL has again succeeded in probing key issues that are driving the NBA’s activity to promote the Bar’s high quality advocacy and advisory services, and to promote access to justice for all.

Once again please accept my congratulations and I wish you all a happy new month. Thank you.
