Olukunle Edun & Ors. v. Speaker, CRSHoA & Ors. Ferdinand Orbhi, SAN, Femi Falana, SAN to Lead New Legal Team


The applicants in Olukunle Edun & Ors. v. Speaker, Cross River State House of Assembly & Ors, have filed a Notice of Appeal against the judgment of the Federal High Court, Calabar dismissing the suit filed by the applicants to protect the fundamental rights of Hon. Justice Akon Ikpeme of the Cross River State Judiciary.

Hon. Justice Ikpeme’s recommendation by the National Judicial Council as the Chief Judge of Cross River State was rejected by the State’s House of Assembly allegedly on the ground that she is not an indigene of Cross River State.

Olukunle Edun, who is the National Publicity Secretary of the Nigerian Bar Association confirmed that prominent Senior Advocates of Nigeria have expressed their intention to participate as Appellants’ counsel with Chief Ferdinand Orbhi, SAN and Femi Falana, SAN leading the legal team. This appeal touches on the soul and independence of the judiciary and promises to be watershed and epochal milestone in Nigeria’s legal history.
