Open Letter to Chief Judge of Lagos State: Now that Lagos Division of the High Court is Currently Down, the Eti-Osa High Court Should have its Registry

Your Lordship, with a heavy heart, I hereby join millions of lawyers condoling Lagos State judiciary on the loss occasioned by the nefarious activities of hoodlums that attacked the Lagos State high court buildings at Igbosere as parts of the fallout of the recent protests by the youths.

I would like Your Lordship to consider, as a matter of expediency, giving the Eti-osa High/Magistrates Court its own registry, thereby making same another division of the Lagos State high court.

This step, if taken immediately, I believe will douse tension among litigants and lawyers who are already used to filing their matters at the Lagos Division of the state high court and expedite justice delivery within the state. Truly speaking, easy access to courts is the beginning of fairness to parties longing for justice.

While I understand that the Ikeja Division of the state high court will be very much available to attend to most of the pending matters at the Lagos Division, for easy administration and convenient access to court through out the environs adjoining the affected division of the court, it will be more than necessary to consider diverting attention of both litigants and lawyers on the Island to the Eti-osa Division as herein suggested.

It will be necessary to state here categorically that the said court at Eti-osa, among many other reasons, is too modern— respecting the state of the art facilities at the disposal of the magistrates and judges sitting over matters in the court—to be affiliated to any other court in the first place and now that the Lagos Division is currently down, the time to upgrade the status of the Eti-osa court is now.

I pray God will replenish our loss in Lagos State beyond any human contemplations.

I believe Lagos shall rise again in next to no time.

God bless Lagos.
God bless Lagos State Judiciary.

Eko o ni baje o!

Sincerely yours,
A.O. Makinde Esq. ,
