Lawyard is set to hold the 4th Adavize Alao Symposium on Privacy and Data Protection. The Symposium will be held on the Zoom virtual platform on Thursday, December 15, 2022, with the theme: “Evolution of Data Protection in Africa.”
The Symposium is conceived as a meeting point for all relevant stakeholders in government, private sector and advisory services for the purpose of charting a course for Privacy and Data Protection in Nigeria.
The 4th edition of the Symposium is facilitated by Lawyard with the support of Duale Ovia & Alex-Adedipe (DOA), Famsville Solicitors, TechHive Advisory, Olumide Babalola LP, IKIGAI and Hacksultan, among other supporters who prefer anonymity.
Speakers scheduled to discuss the theme of the Symposium include Dr. Patricia Boshe, a data protection consultant, lecturer and a senior researcher at the Research Centre for Law and Digitalisation (FREDI) at the University of Passau in Germany; and Mr. Elias Okwara, a specialist in data protection and public policy. Mr. Okwara serves on the African Union Task Forces on a Cybersecurity Strategy for Africa and on the Convention on Cybersecurity and Personal Data Protection (Malabo Convention). His most recent work product includes a successful review and amendment of the Malabo Convention.
Dr. Boshe and Mr. Okwara will be joined by Mr. Temiloluwa Dosumu, a Senior Associate at Famsville Solicitors, a distinguished alumnus of the University of Lagos, Nigerian Law School, and the NSE X-Academy Fintech Course, who routinely advises various startups on legal/regulatory compliance, and data privacy at the often-misunderstood intersections of law, tech, and business.
The panel session will be moderated by Ms. Mkpoikana-Abasi Joseph, a Legal Associate at Carbon, one of Nigeria’s notable digital banks.
In addition to the panel session, the Symposium will also feature the announcement and recognition of winners of the 4th edition of the Adavize Alao Essay Competition on Privacy and Data Protection.
