The Public Relations Officer of the Nigeria Bar Association, Ijebu Ode branch, Ogun State, Moruff O. Balogun, Esq. has urged the Executive Governor of Ogun State Prince Dapo Abiodun, MFR to sign all the death warrants of the convicts before him in order to compliment his efforts in combating kidnappings, ritual killings and other crimes ravaging the state.
Mr. Balogun; while speaking with our correspondent on the recent launch of a joint security outfit by the Ogun State Government expressed his profound gratitude to the Governor of the State in ensuring maximum security of lives and properties which is the major assignment of every reasonable government.
“But, the Governor should do more by signing all the death warrants of the convicts whose appeal are not pending before the appellate court. This if done, shall without doubt send right signal to the men of the underworld that Ogun State is hellfire for criminals.
“How would you explain a situation where a kidnapper who was arrested, prosecuted and convicted is only kept in the correctional centre (prison) only to be enjoying tax payers’ money by eating three square meals daily? This will definitely not serve as any deterrent to others nursing similar ambition.
He continued that “But where a kidnapper who has been convicted after exhausting all legal means is publicly executed, this I think will go a long way to checkmate the excesses of the evil-minded people.
“I equally urge the honorable Attorney General to advise the Governor appropriately on this matter. His power as the chief security officer should be used holistically in the interest of the state.” He further submitted.
