The law week of the Nigerian Bar Association, NBA, Abuja branch (Unity Bar) has kicked off in style. The branch has organised a series of events consisting of a football match against the Supreme Court football team, a health walk, the official commissioning of the Branch office, plenary sessions and a Dinner & cultural night.
One of the key plenary sessions, which held on 30th August 2021 at the Abuja International Conference Centre, was devoted to the Young Lawyers of the Branch. The session’s topic was the making of a successful legal practitioner. It had the Chairman of the Mentoring Committee of the Body of Benchers, Joe-Kyari Gadzama SAN as the Chairman of the session while the panelists comprised of some successful legal preactitioners including Kehinde Ogunwumiju SAN, Oyetola Muyiwa Atoyebi SAN, Dr Agada Elachi, Prince Chukwudi Oli and Dr Sunny Kayode.
After receiving questions during the interactive session from his younger colleagues, Joe-Kyari Gadzama SAN, in his usual manner, provided advice to the Young lawyers and recounted some of his experiences in the profession. In summary, he advised them to decide what they wanted to do early on in their careers. To him, it is imperative for a lawyer in this new age to specialise in a particular area and pursue whatever goals that practitioner has set out in life notwithstanding the obstacles that may present itself.
The panelists all made important points which anchored on the need for young lawyers to be industrious and imbibe the culture of hard work, passion and continual self-development. Prince Chukwudi Oli, in his remarks hammered the need for mentorship. According to him, Joe-Kyari Gadzama SAN provided the much required Mentorship which he needed in his career to succeed when he worked under the Learned Silk a couple years ago.
In other news, at 1:00pm on Tuesday, August 31, 2021, the new NBA Unity Bar Office will be commissioned. It is located at Flat 2, Block 13, FCDA Quarters, Kashim Ibrahim Way, off Aminu Kabo Crescent, Wuse 2, Abuja.
To round off the law week, there will be a dinner and cultural night at 5:00 pm at the International Conference Center, Abuja.
