Falz’s ‘This is Nigeria’ Shaku-shaku and the Hindu Scenario

By Rasheed Abubakar

To all of you who think Nigerian Muslims have no right or justification to react to the shaku-shaku singer over his Hijab misrepresentation, let me take you to India, where the Hindus are currently protesting against Bollywood actor, Priyanka Chopra over what they call stereotyping against peaceful Hindus in the American television series, Quantico.

In the TV series, which is being aired on ABC, Priyanka, who played the role of an FBI agent, foiled a Hindu extremist plot to carry out a nuclear attack on New York City and blame Pakistan for it.

“And blame it on Pakistan!”, a demonised plot the Bollywood/Indian propaganda machine is known for in their films against the innocent Pakistani Muslims. Now that the Quantico series director changed the narrative and portrayed them as the bad guys, they are now playing the victim, and calling for their icon-actress’ head.

The actress and her producer didn’t claim it is a work of art or invoke freedom of speech, as justified by the shaku-shaku singer and his supporters in his shaku-shaku song. They both apologised to the Hindu community for misrepresentation, yet the Hindus didn’t accept their apology.

Hindus all over the world are now calling for the boycott of the popular TV series. They also threatened the actress, who they said has crossed the line with her attack on peaceful Hindus.

You can read more about this on the @HinduAmericans Twitter handle.

When you provoke other people’s sensibilities, like the Yoruba “sophisticated morons”, or the peaceful Hindus as terrorists or the Muslims through the shaku-shaku dance, it is normal to expect reactions and it is expected of the provocateur to apologise.

There is always a limit to freedom of speech.
