Treasurer of the Nigerian Bar Association Section on Public Interest and Development and Law, NBA-SPIDEL, Funmi Adeogun mourned the slain Bolanle Raheem, describing her as a humble personality. She also called for extensive policing reforms to end oppressive actions of law enforcement agencies in Nigeria.

Mrs Raheem was shot by a police officer at a check point on Christmas day in Ajah area of Lagos State.

“Mrs. Omobanle Raheem was my church my member and we were in the same department in church. A very calm, gentle, and reserved person. Naturally, her dispositions and countenances were always peaceful, serene as a light in the darkness. May the good Lord forgive her shortcomings and comfort her family.

“Rest in peace dear sister in the Lord.”

“Thinking of yet another family, circle of friends and associates that are shaken and shattered as we mourn the loss of Mrs Raheem to this infuriating act of violence from officers who should protect us.

She queried that “how many families must experience this senseless bloodshed before we finally say enough is enough to police brutality? We must prevent, by all legal means necessary, the abuse of power by people who are sworn to protect our communities.”

Adeogun stressed that quick and effective interventions are needed to prevent all types of law enforcement violence and injustices nationwide — widespread police reforms and large-scale institutional change in the criminal justice system.
